The Long & Short Of It

I was attending dinner with some friends last night and we started comparing notes on our eyesight. It seems that the few of us are exhibiting signs of long-sightedness and desperately trying to deny it but alas ...”how does one hide long sightedness?”

Maria has never worn specs and she finds herself adjusting the distance of any reading material infront of her so that she can focus well. It's a matter of trial and error on her part. I, on the other hand is having a combination of short & long sightedness. Though my optometrist did say that the long sightedness is very mild...yet I find reading small prints on labels quite a challenge. I have to remove my specs & voila … I can read!!!! Ling is the funniest!!! She wears contacts and has major problems reading anything... even her sms. I can take off my specs and read whatever small prints and have them on again in a jiffy but she can't dig our her lenses on the spot and put them back either. So she is in a dilemma. So how does she read??? She places whatever reading material at arm's length and tries to focus like mad... or she gets someone to read for her.

So with all these ways of trying to focus.... we can't really hide our age anymore. Ling was saying that at the way we carry on everyone will know we passed 40 . When we were young and we saw people taking off their glasses to read or reading books/mags at arm's length.... we call them “old”. Guess what ? Now we fall into that category which we previously labeled.

As we sit at the dinner last night laughing our heads off, I can certainly say that 40 ++ is really not that old. They say “Life begins at 40” so we have a good stretch ahead to run. Yes... indeed...run and not be weary. The long & short of it is to age beautifully & gracefully.
